 BONAIRE CLOUDY NIGHTS OBSERVATORY

Bonaire is an island located in the Caribbean, a true paradise for recreational diving. It is here where I have my house and my observatory, it is here where the dream begins...

Bonaire, a destination for stargazing and astrophotography

Marvel every day with the universe

In the southern Caribbean, Bonaire has long been celebrated as one of the world’s finest destinations for recreational diving. Yet beyond its turquoise waters lies another, quieter distinction—an island where the night sky still reveals its full depth.

Across the northern, southern, and eastern regions, Bonaire offers sky quality approaching Bortle Class 2. Under these conditions, the Milky Way stretches vividly across the horizon, and faint deep-sky objects emerge with remarkable clarity.

The island’s dry climate and steady trade winds often provide stable, transparent skies, creating an environment where astrophotography becomes both accessible and deeply rewarding.

What sets Bonaire apart is not only the quality of its skies, but the atmosphere in which they are experienced—unhurried, intimate, and far removed from crowded observing sites. Here, the night feels expansive and personal.

Complementing this experience is the Bonaire Cloudy Nights Observatory, a small, independent, non-profit initiative dedicated to astrophotography. Rather than a commercial venue, it is a passion-driven space that reflects a genuine connection to the night sky. On occasion, and by prior arrangement, visiting enthusiasts may be welcomed to share in this setting, adding a rare, personal dimension to their stay.

For travelers seeking more than the expected Caribbean escape, Bonaire offers a unique duality: world-class diving beneath the surface, and pristine, dark skies above. It is a destination where days are defined by light, and nights by the quiet brilliance of the universe.
